Monday 23rd January 1911 was a typical grey, damp morning seemingly like any other to the passengers who hurried onto the 9.10 am train from Treherbert. But approximately forty minutes later collided with a stationary coal train and the scene became became one of devastation.
The disaster which occurred on that fateful day shocked not only the mining communities of both the Rhondda Fawr and Rhondda Fach valleys, but also a large area of the South Wales Coalfield. Many of the passengers from a nearby train offered what assistance they could by helping people from the coaches, and cranes worked all day to clear the wreckage, but still twelve people died and many more were injured.
This book looks back at the disaster and contains maps, contemporary newspaper reports and details of the victims and the subsequent inquest.
