This is the third volume in the series of books portraying a history of Bargoed and Gilfach, which this time also features a chapter relating to the nearby town of Aberbargoed. Set in the heart of the Rhymney Valley, Glamorganshire, South Wales, the area was once so rich in many things. Collieries and the jobs that they provided were plentiful, shops and businesses were flourishing, the pubs were much frequented and on the Seventh Day there were a dozen or more churches and chapels all packed to capacity. Much of this way of life has all but disappeared, thus a book such as this, with its collection of more than 200 photographs lives to tell the tale, and serves well to remind today's generations of just how things used to be and what they might have missed for better or worse!
